Removals to the Balearic Islands from the UK

UK to Spain removals, door to door

A move to Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera is a mainland Spanish removal with a ferry leg on the end. That’s the whole difference — and it’s a smaller difference than most people expect, because the Balearics are fully part of Spain and inside the EU VAT area. There is no customs paperwork for the island crossing.

What changes is the schedule and the price. Island moves are quoted on request: tell us what’s moving and where, and we’ll confirm availability, cost and timing before you commit to anything.

Where deliveries go

  • Mallorca — Palma, Calvià, Santa Ponsa, Portals, Andratx, Sóller, Pollença, Alcúdia, Inca, Manacor and the villages of the centre
  • Ibiza — Eivissa, Santa Eulària, Sant Antoni, Sant Josep and the rural fincas inland
  • Menorca — Maó, Ciutadella, Es Castell, Alaior, Sant Lluís
  • Formentera — reached by a second ferry from Ibiza, so it’s an island hop on top of an island hop

How the route works

The vehicle runs to Spain as normal — Portsmouth–Santander or Dover–Calais and down through France — then crosses from Barcelona, Valencia or Dénia to the island port. Palma and Alcúdia serve Mallorca, Eivissa and Sant Antoni serve Ibiza, Maó and Ciutadella serve Menorca.

Two practical consequences:

  • Add time. Budget roughly a week on top of a comparable mainland delivery, more for a shared load waiting on a sailing.
  • Book early in summer. Ferry capacity between June and September is largely consumed by tourist traffic, so freight space is tighter and dearer. A July move needs planning that a February move doesn’t.

Heading for the Canaries rather than the Balearics? Don’t assume the two are alike. The Canary Islands sit outside the EU VAT area, which means sea freight, a customs declaration and a valued inventory — removals to the Canary Islands → explains it.

What it costs

The mainland ranges are the starting point — around £1,000–£1,400 for a 5–10m³ part load, £3,500–£6,500 for a three-bed household — with the ferry crossing and island surcharge added on top, priced per move rather than from a table. Full 2026 price guide →

We publish honest guide prices everywhere else on this site and won’t invent one here: island pricing depends on the sailing, the season and the island, so it’s quoted individually.

Ship it or buy it there?

This is the question worth doing properly before you book. Everything on the islands arrived by sea, so replacing furniture locally costs more than it does on the mainland and the choice is narrower.

The rough rule that holds up: shipping cheap flat-pack rarely pays; shipping good furniture usually does. White goods are the closest call — heavy, bulky, and available locally, but at island prices.

Access on the islands

Worth flagging when you enquire, because it changes the vehicle:

  • Old-town streets in Palma, Eivissa and Ciutadella are narrow and often restricted, so the final leg transfers to a smaller van
  • Rural fincas in Ibiza and inland Mallorca frequently sit at the end of unmade tracks
  • Hillside villages in the Serra de Tramuntana — Deià, Valldemossa, Sóller — have approaches a full-size lorry can’t take

Moving to Mallorca to live?

Our Moving to Mallorca guide → covers the island itself — neighbourhoods, the padró, healthcare, schooling in Catalan and what it actually costs to live there.

Frequently asked questions

Is there customs paperwork for the Balearics? No. The Balearics are fully part of Spain and inside the EU VAT area, so the ferry crossing is a domestic move. (The Canary Islands are different — they sit outside the EU VAT area.)

How much do removals to Mallorca cost? Island moves are quoted per move: the mainland rate for your volume, plus the ferry crossing and island surcharge. Tell us what’s moving and we’ll price it.

How long does it take? Roughly a week longer than an equivalent mainland delivery, and longer again for a shared load waiting on a sailing.

Can you move a part load rather than a whole house? Yes — part loads are common to the islands, particularly for people furnishing an apartment rather than emptying a UK home.

Do you cover Formentera? It’s reached by a second ferry from Ibiza, so it’s quoted separately. Say so on the enquiry form.

When is the cheapest time to move to the islands? Outside the June–September window, when ferry capacity is taken up by tourist traffic and freight space costs more.
