Madrid sits on the main route north, so returns from the capital are quick — dedicated vehicles typically reach the UK in 2–3 days via Santander. Backload space comes up regularly on the same run.
Madrid moves differ from the coastal ones: they’re mostly work relocations ending, which means smaller loads, firmer dates and apartment access rather than villa driveways.
Where we collect
The city districts — Centro, Salamanca, Chamberí, Chamartín, Retiro, Arganzuela, Tetuán — and the wider Comunidad: Pozuelo, Majadahonda, Las Rozas, Boadilla, Alcobendas, San Sebastián de los Reyes and the Henares corridor.
Apartment access
Three things decide the price, and all three are worth answering before the quote:
- Which floor, and is there a lift? Older central buildings often have a lift too small for a sofa or wardrobe, so furniture comes down the stairwell.
- How narrow is the street? Centro, La Latina and Malasaña have streets a full-size lorry can’t work from; the load transfers via a smaller vehicle.
- Loading restrictions. Central districts have controlled-access zones with limited loading windows, so collections are timed around them.
Backloads from Madrid
Vans deliver to Madrid constantly and head back north, so discounted return space is available if your dates flex. Give a collection window rather than a single day and you’ll pay less.
That said, work relocations often can’t flex — a contract ends on a date and the flat has to be empty. If that’s you, take the dedicated run; Madrid’s position on the northern route keeps it reasonable.
What it costs
Part loads from around £1,000 for 5m³, less on backload dates; a three-bed household £3,500–£6,500; dedicated vehicles £2,300–£3,300. Full cost guide →
UK customs — ToR1
Moving your home back to Britain? Apply for HMRC’s Transfer of Residence relief before the goods travel and give your remover the reference. It exempts personal belongings from duty and VAT.
Worth noting for Madrid specifically: if you’ve been on a short work posting and kept a UK home throughout, you may not be transferring residence at all. Check the conditions rather than assuming. Full ToR1 guide →
What people move back
Flat contents — beds, sofas, desks, kitchen equipment, books, bikes. Madrid rentals are frequently part-furnished, so loads are smaller than people expect, and a surprising number of returns are comfortably part-load size.
Frequently asked questions

How long does Madrid to the UK take? Typically 2–3 days on a dedicated vehicle via Santander — one of the quicker returns. Backloads follow the schedule.
My flat has no lift. Does that matter? It adds crew time, so say so before the quote rather than on the day.
Can the lorry park on my street? In the older central districts, often not — a smaller vehicle handles the collection, timed around loading restrictions.
I was on a work posting and kept my UK home. Does ToR1 apply? Possibly not — the relief is for transferring your normal residence. Check the conditions before assuming.
Do you collect from Pozuelo and Las Rozas? Yes, and the whole Comunidad de Madrid.
